By producing furniture using Bamboo we hope to support a neccessary process that stops our reliance upon already limited sustainable timber resources.
Bamboo is sustainable by natural design and requires no replanting after harvesting. When a tree is cut down it is gone forever, but after harvesting Bamboo just keeps on growing. This is because it has an extensive net like root system that continues to send up new shoots.
Bamboo provides natural countenance for a planet with increasing CO2 emissions. It releases more oxygen than the equivalent strands of trees, as much as 35% in some instances. Some species are capable of sequestering up to 12 tons of carbon dioxide from the air per hectare (10,000 m2).
Bamboo grows very quickly! It is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet. Some species grow up to one metre or three feet per day. Because of the speed at which it grows Bamboo removes more carbon from the atmosphere in any given period than most conventional hardwoods.
