Rural communities have throughout history drawn upon the timber resources on their land for shelter and as a means to earn a living.
We believe that current levels of sustainable timber resources are insufficient to supply all of our furniture and construction requirements. The ongoing demand for timber based products encourages illegal logging which has resulted in the degradation of land and left communities struggling to sustain themslelves.
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet and can aid soil regeneration on degraded land. Bamboo offers a quick and accessible route for struggling rural communities to regenerate both their land and their communities and maintain an independent way of life.
We seek to ensure that our activities are carried out in balance with the local communities surrounding them. We make regular checks to ensure that local forests are not harmed by those planting and harvesting Bamboo on our behalf.
Wage rates vary from place to place making a standard policy somewhat complicated to apply. However we do assess a workshops wage rates in relation to the local community before committing to a partnership. We aim to ensure that staff are paid above the average for the area and the skill type. |
